SHINE Long Serving Volunteers: 35 & 40 Years Long Service Award

Updated: Sep 22, 2020

Mr Gopinath Menon (right) receiving his 35 years SHINE Long Service Award given out by Mr Wan Chee Foong (left), Chairman of SHINE, during our Volunteers Appreciation Event in 2019.

It is amazing that Mr Menon, our former Chairman of the Board, started his volunteering journey with then Students Care Service in the 1983, way before most of us are born!

Mr Menon isn't the only one. Mr Eric Low, our current Chief Advisor, started his volunteering journey with the organization back in 1979, and in 2019, he proudly received his 40 years Long Service Award as a Volunteers.

He recalled candidly what got him started in his volunteering journey:

"A friend invited me to help in an interest-free loan for an agency to pay bonuses. So I got very curious about what this agency does that runs out of money to pay bonuses"

Mr Eric Low would go on to play a pivotal part of our then Students Care Service foundational years, as well as instrumental in helping the agency to raise fund to set up our first community based agency at Clementi in 1983. Today Mr Eric Low still plays an active role in our organization, including being involved in our SHINE Annual Charity Golf Fund Raising Event.

We thank both Mr Eric Low and Mr Menon for their outstanding dedication and commitment to volunteering for SHINE Children & Youth Services!
